about

More shoes is a song about migration. It is a response to the way in which migration has been politicized and the way refugees have been treated. The original idea came from when my son said there are more shoes then people in the world and it just developed from there. The song also comments on consumerism and the priority in our society on growth. The tune has a feeling of movement which fits with the song.

lyrics

Pondering the mysteries of life as much as I am able
Why is there so much upon the shelf so little on the table
Thinking on the whats whys and wherefores the things we choose to label
Will we ever settle up our scores more horses for the stable
There's more shoes than people in this world, there's more shoes than people
The turning of the tide what does it hide the flotsam can be fatal
But folks like you and me we're not supposed to see will we turn the tables
Thinking on complexity and joy the cat that's in the cradle
Truth it can be spoken by a little boy and we can learn from fables

Watching all the hordes from foreign shores we're insecure unstable
But people in the boats don't win no votes keep gazing at that navel
We need hope not fear that much is clear don't stoke the fire with fuel
But where disaster lies a phoenix can arise don't need no tower of babel
